You feel the weight. You know you are buried in debt and you need out. Where is the miracle answer to get you out of debt tomorrow? How are you going to get out from under this burden ASAP?
When you decide you don’t want to live in debt anymore, some challenging and magical things are about to happen. Changing your life to pay off all of your debt and never look back is such an amazing thing. You are deciding to not only change your finances but change yourself too!
You can’t possibly go through a financial freedom journey and not be different on the other side. BUT, this is also where the challenge comes in to play.
Change and growth….it kinda sucks. Growth is hard. Telling yourself, “no,” is really hard. It’s much more fun just to go out to eat instead of cooking at home.
The awesome part about this whole process is, the challenge isn’t going to feel so challenging when you are seeing your debt get lower and lower.
Eventually, your new way of living and thinking about money is going to be reinforced by what you are seeing happen in your financial life. Your actions will be rewarded. You will become debt free and be in a total “f*** you” situation.
If you aren’t familiar with being in what I call a “f*** you” situation, this is what my husband and I dream of. No debt, money in the bank, retirement being piled up and not a financial care in the world. Does Murphy want to throw an emergency at me? Bring it on!
Our church needs repairs or its mortgage paid off? Done. Freak medical accident? Bills taken care of. Tired of my boss who takes me for granted? Quitting!
Nothing can touch us. That is the freaking dream.
If you are motivated to become debt free, chances are, you want this to happen as fast as possible. Honestly, it would be weird if you weren’t fired up about this and wanting to destroy it as fast as humanly possible.
Spoiler alert: It is going to take work and will not happen overnight. If you were looking for that, you are in the wrong place.
If you want to pay off debt fast, there are 4 key actions you need to take to accomplish it.
How to Pay Off Debt Fast:
Shift your mindset.
This is the single most important thing you will do. Your mind controls everything you do. Believe debt is wrong. Know that you won’t be adding any more debt to your life…ever.
You have chosen to pay off debt and you are going to get after it with everything you’ve got. No excuses, no giving up. You are in this and you are going to just kill it.
Instead of living a life where you give in to every want and desire, you are going to start to see the long-term, bigger picture of what your life will look like when you are debt free. You will learn to tell yourself no and put off some instant gratification for longer-term joy.
All of your childish impulses will stop. You will start telling your money what to do and you will make smart money choices that your family and friends will probably make fun of.
Shift your mindset. You no longer have a disposable income. You’ve already spent all of your money. You spent your future earnings when you went into debt. Now, none of your money is actually yours. All of it is going to go back to the people you borrowed from.
You don’t get money until your debts are paid. Period. This is step one for you. This is your new thought process.
When you are in a situation to make a choice of furthering your debt payoff or continuing to live how you have been, you need to be playing this over and over again in your head.

Make a debt payoff plan.
If you are staring at a mountain of debt it is going to feel freaking impossible. When you look at the entire mountain, the first step seems completely worthless and 9 times out of 10, you will want to just turn around and not even try.
Your debt needs to be broken down into steps so that each one seems possible and encourages you to take another step, then another, and then another.
The debt snowball method is exactly this. It will get you started with small steps, to then take bigger and bigger steps. Before you know it, you will be looking down from the top of the mountain.
Having a debt payoff plan will help keep you focused on your next step, and it will also let you look back to see how far you’ve come.
Following a payoff plan helps you focus on the individual steps so you don’t get overwhelmed by the mountain. This is how you win.

Oh, you knew this was coming. When you are managing your budget to pay off debt, there are only two ways to pay off your debt even faster. You can either increase your income or decrease your spending.
This will become your season of hustle. And you know what?? Just embrace this with everything you’ve got! Hustle! Hustle! Hustle!
Let people make fun of you for how ridiculous you are. It doesn’t freaking matter! This is your life and you get to decide how you want to live. Do you want to not go out with friends for 6 months while you tackle this? More power to you! Have them hang out at your place for popcorn and a movie.
If you are trying to increase your income, get bold and ask for a raise at work. You can also pick up side jobs (online or in real life) and sell your stuff. Are you really good at making something people would buy? Start selling!
Take a minute to think about your skill set, google it and find something extra to do to increase your income. Every little bit is going to help.
If you are trying to decrease your expenses, get ready for this nugget.
You can decrease your expenses to make your life as basic as you can live with. This is totally up to you. What are the sacrifices worth to you?
Downgrade your lifestyle, cut out luxuries you can do without and make true sacrifices to not spend money.
You will learn so much about yourself. I honestly think you will be shocked to find out how little you can actually live on. You may not have given yourself the opportunity to be frugal in the past. When you cut expenses you will find out how much of the crap in your life you didn’t really need.
There is actually something super freeing about getting rid of all the stuff in your life, not buying new crap you don’t need and living on less. Life gets easier. It becomes more enjoyable and I truly believe you will feel better about yourself.
